Argentina-Chile 2008
For most of the month of May 2008, Ivannia and I were traveling in Argentina and Chile. It was our second big trip of 2008, just 2 and a half months after having gone to Japan, but we did prepare it very carefully and it went very well.
We flew first from Montreal to Buenos Aires, Argentina, via Toronto and Santiago de Chile. Our friends, the Placidos, welcomed us in their home for a couple of days, until we flew to Iguazú Falls. Back from that unbelievable place, we spent another week in Buenos Aires, staying in an appartment just off Recoleta Cemetery.
After that we spent the next 10 days or so traveling by land to Santiago de Chile. A 4-hour bus ride took us to Rosario, where we stayed overnight. The next day we took another bus to Córdoba and stayed there for 1 and a half days before taking an overnight bus to Mendoza, the wine region of Argentina.
After 2 days in Mendoza, having visited some wine "bodegas" and the Andes mountains, we were supposed to get to Santiago after 7-hour bus ride but the border crossing up in the mountains was closed because of snow. We ended up having to travel more than 600km south to be able to cross into Chile. It took us 33 hours in a tiny bus with other 17 people who, like us, didn't want to remain stranded in Mendoza.
Eventually we made it to Santiago, where we stayed for 4 days, with a day trip to Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.
