Japan 2008
We had to go back to Japan eventually. The first time we were there in 2005 was amazing and we wanted more. The problem with Japan, however, is that it is a rich country and so you have to bring money and be prepared to spend it. That's why even though we really wanted to go back, it took us three years to finally do it.
In 2007 we almost got there. We were on our way to Hong Kong, but we had planned that in case the flight was full and we couldn't make it, we would try to take the flight to Tokyo. In the end we were the last two standby passengers to get into the plane and so Japan had to wait.
This time we took the time, set apart a couple of weeks around Reading Week at McGill and planned the trip with some care. I even started learning some Japanese, including some of the basic notions of the writing system.
Everything went well and we visited our friend Yūzō in Tokyo. We stayed there for four days and then went on to Kyoto for six more days during which we were able to make a day-trip to Nara.
